Inline checking with a site key
Let your readers check a claim on your own website, without leaving the page.
Select some text on one of your pages and a small Check with News Intelligence button appears. The reader presses it and sees the verdict, the evidence and the sources in a panel on your page. Nothing needs to be installed on their device.
What you need
- A workspace on the newsroom plan. Inline checking is not part of the free plan.
- A site key. It is created in your workspace under Website key.
- The address of your website, such as
yournewsroom.com.
Set it up
- Create the keyOpen your workspace, choose Website key, type your website address and press Create key. Only the owner and admins can do this. You can add up to ten addresses to one key.
- WordPressInstall the News Intelligence plugin, open Settings, News Intelligence and paste the key (it starts with
pk_) into the Site key box. Save. - Any other websitePaste this line just before the closing body tag of your page template, using your own key:
<script src="https://chatniai.com/widget.js" data-key="pk_YOUR_KEY" defer></script>
Is it safe to put the key in my page?
Yes. A site key is not a secret like an API key. It works only on the website addresses you listed, and you can revoke it at any time. Never put your API key (pij_live_...) in a web page.
Cost and limits
Each reader check uses one check from your workspace allowance, the same as a check you run yourself. If the allowance runs out, readers see a polite message and nothing is charged beyond your plan.
What readers see, and what we keep
The text a reader chooses to check is sent to News Intelligence so it can be checked. We do not set tracking cookies through the widget. Please tell your readers about it in your own privacy notice. Our privacy policy explains how we handle the text.
If it does not work
- "This site key is not valid": the key was mistyped or has been revoked. Copy it again from the Website key page.
- "Not allowed on this website": the address is not on the key. Add it by creating a new key with that address.
- "Part of the newsroom plan": the workspace is on the free plan.
- Allowance message: the workspace has used its checks. See Allowance and limits.
